More detail on this person: DEAN G. GILLETT,
died peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2015, at the
VA Hospital, in Fort Wayne. He was born on Oct.
25, 1945, in Weyerhauser, Wis. Dean was
honorably discharged as a ranking captain from the
United States Army in 1972. He served one tour in
Germany and two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter
pilot. After his military career, Dean retired
after 32 years with North American Van Lines as a
long haul truck driver and a certified trainer.
During this time, he continued to serve his
country by enlisting in the reserves based out of
St. Paul, Minn. Whether it was in his beautiful
"Busch Gardens" backyard or the lakes in northern
Wisconsin with his family, Dean's love for the
outdoors was his true joy. He is survived by his
wife of 51 years, Karen; daughter, Kelly/Britt
Critser of Chetek, Wis.; son, Kyle Gillett of
Prior Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren, James
Akins, Josh and Heather Akins, Danielle Akins, and
Lukas Gillett; and two great grandchildren, Dakota
and Isabelle. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Lewis and Bertha Gillett; and brother,
Clifford. The family of Dean G. Gillett would like
to express their sincere gratitude for all the
excellent service and tender care he received
throughout his bout with cancer at the VA
Hospital. "Their tenderness and compassion will
never be forgotten." Services for Dean will be
held with family back in his home state of
Wisconsin at a future date. Memorials may be
directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
