More detail on this person: William A Gilstrap, 79 Obituaries Chattanooga Times Free Press (TN) - Monday, March 20, 2006 William A. Gilstrap, 79, of East Ridge, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006, in a local hospital. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas, Mr. Gilstrap was a retired officer in the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II, the Korean conflict, Berlin Airlift and three tours of Vietnam. He was also a presidential pilot for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He held a lifetime membership with VFW Post 4848. He was preceded in death by his wives, Vivian I. Gilstrap and Ria Gilstrap; son, Eugene Scott Gilstrap; parents, Joe Kirk and Mary Jones Gilstrap; brothers, Edward H. and J.T. Gilstrap; sisters, Mary Jo Gilstrap and Mildred Hammontree. Survivors include two sons, Jerry A. Gilstrap and Randall C. Gilstrap, both of East Ridge; stepson, George F. Yother, of East Ridge; brother, George R. Gilstrap, of Crossville, Tenn.; three grandsons; and several nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the South Crest Chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Condolences may be sent at www.lanesouthcrestchapel.com. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
