More detail on this person: A life well lived; a man well loved. Son, brother, husband, father, soldier, pilot, grandfather, and best friend to many, John Robert Goold left this world on May 1st, 2021 in Broussard, Louisiana. Born on July 21, 1945, John grew up on Goold Orchards in Castleton-on-Hudson, NY and found he had two dream occupations. He nourished the first with his degree in Horticulture and the second through the Chief Warrant Officer Program in the Army. While he worked on the farm for a limited number of years, he flew helicopters for the rest of his working life. John flew first in Vietnam as a medivac dust off pilot, then as an offshore pilot and medivac pilot for PHI. John deeply valued his many years working with Metro Life Flight in Cleveland from 1998 until his retirement from PHI in 2009. He often spoke of the amazing team of people he worked with there. John continued his commitment to the military through the Army National Guard where he retired as a CW4. John's wit, humor, and even his sometimes negative perception of the world, (which earned him the nickname Eeyore) endeared him to many. John strode though this world impacting so many lives through his medivac flights, friendship, and love, that it is hard to count the number of people he touched. His love of horses and horse racing extended to the people he met at the track. Even through the COVID restrictions and health issues, John reached out and connected with old friends, established new relationships and was the heart of his family. John is survived by his children, Jason R. Goold (Julie), Amy Goold Hebert (Chip), Seth R. Goold (Carissa); grandchildren Tyler Goold and Connor, Cameron, Aidan, and Anabelle Hebert; siblings Peter Goold (Marion) and Sue Ellen Miller (Edward); nieces Rachael Miller, Megan Goold, and nephew Adam Goold. He is also survived by the mother of his children, (as he used to introduce her) Joy Fragola. John was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marcia Goold. A special thanks goes to Dr. DeeDee Luke, Nurse Misty, and the rest of the staff at Dr. Luke's office. Their care, compassion, and support for John over the years made a real difference in his life. The family will hold a memorial service in Broussard in the near future. John's cremains will be interred in Castleton, NY with his parents.
