More detail on this person: In loving memory of Jerry William Garrett Sr, who at the age of 87, departed from this life on April 29, 2024, in Fairhope Alabama. Born in Reidsville North Carolina on October 11, 1936, he dedicated his life to service and family. Mr. Garrett, a Vietnam Veteran, rendered over four decades of distinguished service to the United States as a member of the US Army from January 1955 until his retirement, as a CW3 in September 1998. His commendable military career was highlighted by the honor of receiving the Air Medal with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters, a testament to his bravery and dedication. In addition to his esteemed military career, he continued to mentor as a Department of the Army Civilian helicopter instructor pilot from October 1974 until July 2001, sharing his skills and experiences to prepare the next generation of pilots. Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Jerry nurtured a love for the excitement of NASCAR racing, the fervor of college football, and took great pride in tracing the lineage of his family through genealogy, ensuring the stories of his ancestors would not be forgotten. He now joins his late parents, James W. Garrett and Kiness M. Garrett, as well as his brothers Kenneth A. and Gene L. Garrett, in eternal rest. His legacy endures through his beloved wife of 43 years, Carol Lynn Garrett, his devoted children, Jerry Garrett Jr, Katherine (Clark) Ishee, John (Sarah) Garrett, James (Wendy) Garrett and Ernest (Susan) Campbell, alongside his treasured 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; his brother Paul Garrett and sister Francis Cox. A service to commemorate Jerry's life will be held with full military honors at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Jerry William Garrett Sr's life was a beacon of courage, love, and patriotism. He will be deeply missed and eternally honored by all those whose lives he touched.
