More detail on this person: Col. James T. Gordon, 83, of Springfield, VA., went to be with the Lord on January 15, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence William Gordon and Mary Elizabeth Gordon; and his sister Mary Clare Sczepaniak. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Rosemary Joann Gordon; his son James Gordon (Ryan); son John Gordon (Amy); and daughter Ann Marie Gordon. He was the beloved Grandpa to Ian, Samantha, Gracie, Alexandra and Joseph. Born in Pontiac, Illinois in 1933, he graduated from St. Paul School in Odell, IL in a class of 12, after leading the basketball team to the Illinois State Sweet Sixteen Tournament . He graduated from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN, where he played both baseball and basketball. He was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps where he received his Naval Aviator Flight wings in 1957. He served two tours in Vietnam during his highly decorated career of 26 years, retiring from active duty in 1981at the rank of Colonel. Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who always put his family and friends before himself. He was a member of the Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and loved sharing time with his grandchildren. The family will receive friends and family at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday January 22, from 2-5 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Nativity in Burke, VA on Monday January 23rd at 10:30 with a graveside service at the Quantico National Cemetery at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at the National Museum of the Marine Corps at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services, www.crs.org
