More detail on this person: Jerry Gray Feb. 7, 1951 - June 13, 2009 Jerry Gray, 58, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away Saturday, June 13 at his home after a short illness. Jerry was born February 7, 1951 in Burnet, Texas to Alvin and Vardie (Avey) Gray. He married Virginia McNeely in Alvin, Texas on May 29, 1971. Jerry entered the US Army in 1970 and served our country as a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam. After the war he continued flying until his retirement in 1990. He then began a distinguished career in commercial aviation beginning in San Antonio, Texas, flying for Air Life. While at Air Life, he was responsible for saving many school children's lives that had been stranded in raging waters during the 1987 Guadalupe Flood near San Antonio. During his career in aviation he furthered his education at Embry Riddle University. Survivors include his wife Virginia; son Jerry L. Gray Jr. of Ft. Collins; daughter Shannon (Nick) Colvin of Dallas, Texas; two sisters: Sharron (Vic) Driskill, Morgan, Texas, and Beverly (Russell) Casey of Gladewater, Texas; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service is being planned in Arkansas in the fall. Memorial contributions may be made to VietNow in care of Vessey Funeral Service, 2649 E.
