Services were 3 p.m. Dec. 22, 2007, at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Starkville. The Rev. George Buell officiated. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery in Starkville. Welch Funeral Home in Starkville was in charge of arrangements. Lt. Col. Greer was born March 27, 1931, in McComb. He was the son of the late Richard Franklin Greer and the late Jane Stephenson Greer. He grew up in Jackson. He received his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and his master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He retired a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a former executive director of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors and was former mayor of the City of Starkville. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Holloway Greer of Starkville; daughter and son-in-law, Patty Greer Hammons and Billy Ray of Ocean Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick Greer and Debra of Ocean Springs, and Rusty Greer and Elizabeth of Los Gatos, Calif.; a sister, Shirley Rogers and her husband Ray of Pearl; grandchildren, Jay and Molly Greer, Samantha Greer, Laura Greer, Katy Greer, Jesse Hammons, Ceci Hammons, Margaret Greer and Sam Greer. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
