Dave Gehling was inthe 6th Airlift Platoon and relocated with the platoon to Nha Trang. I think his
DEROS was in late April or May 66 so he may not have been there when the 281st arrived. Dave and I
served together our second tours in the 159th ASHBn in the 101st 68-69. Later we were in
USTASCOMEUR - he in the 22d Aviation Det and me at TASCOM HQ. We worked the Nuc movements
missions. After he retired from the Army he lived in Weatherford, TX. He had diabetes, lost both
legs and died on 6 November 1999. He is buried in the Ft Sam Houston Cemetery.
I served with David E Gehling in Permisans, Germany, 1970-1972. He was SIP in the 22nd Aviation
Detachment. I have his signature on an Instrument Rating Award issued to me from him on 11 Jan 72.
Good man and excellent aviator.
