Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel. Friends may call 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the chapel. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Wayside Waifs. Major Getz was born April 23, 1931, in Newton, KS. He served in the U.S.Army in Korea, 1952; Vietnam, 1969; the Kansas National Guard; and the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring April 23, 1991, as a Major. He worked 20 years as a chief estimator for Holland Corporation. He started the first Traffic Watch Helicopter Service in Kansas City in the 1950's, with KMBZ. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Camp Fire, and member of the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce and the Lenexa Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; mother, Irene Childs, Topeka, KS; daughters, Laurie Day, Overland Park, KS, Mary Sullivan, Sunrise, FL, Nancy Burley, Plantation, FL, and Julie Jung, Austin, TX; a son, Michael Getz, Tampa, FL; stepdaughter, Kate Dixon, Dallas, TX; stepson, Gary Schneider, San Diego, CA; and eight grandchildren.
