More detail on this person: Cancer. CHARLES HAYS, 46, WORKED AT VAN DORN DEMAG CORP. Charles "Terry" Hays was a draftsman-designer for Van Dorn Demag Corp. in Strongsville for 15 years. He was also a decorated helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. He was a captain when he discharged. Mr. Hays died yesterday at Parma Community General Hospital of cancer. He was 46. He was born in Elyria and lived in the Parma-Parma Heights area all of his life. He graduated from Valley Forge High School in 1966 and entered the service the next year. He graduated from Cuyahoga Community College. He was awarded the Air Medal and Silver Star. He was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Association. He enjoyed reading world history books and the history of the American Indians. He was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Pamela; son, Sean of Parma; a brother; and his father Charles R. of Parma Heights. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Ripepi Funeral Home, 5762 Pearl Rd., Parma.
