Drive, Mt. Julie
Haley, Michael Wayne, of Mt. Juliet, TN was born
December 11, 1948 and passed away November
26, 2009 at the age of 60. Mr. Haley graduated
from Dickson High School and then attended Austin
Peay University. After completing U.S. Army basic
training at Ft. Polk, LA, he went on to graduate
flight school at Ft. Rucker, AL. As a helicopter
pilot Mr. Haley was credited with saving numerous
lives of fellow servicemen during the Vietnam War
by piloting AH-1G's in and out of hostile and
actively combative territories with the 175th
Assault Helicopter Company also known as "The
Outlaws" and was awarded the Bronze Star. After
returning home from Vietnam, Mike's service to his
country continued as a flight instructor with the
U.S. Army at Ft. Rucker, AL. He also served in the
Tennessee Army National Guard and was a
member of the Mt. Juliet Lodge # 642 F&AM.
Continuing his education, Chief Warrant Officer
Haley earned a Master of Science Degree from the
University of Tennessee. The Journey through
Mike's career path included becoming a law
enforcement officer in Dickson, TN to retiring
from a Fortune 100 company as the executive
human resource manager. Michael Wayne Haley
was a devoted life long member of the Vietnam
Helicopter Pilots Association where he and his
wife Marilyn faithfully attended reunions all over
the country. This wonderful and brilliant
gentleman was preceded in death by his parents,
Thomas Haley, Sr. and Jewel Burns Haley and
brother Larry Haley.
He is survived by: wife - Marilyn Colgate Haley of
Mt. Juliet, TN; Daughters - Stephanie (Barry)
Estes of Burns, TN; Hollie Haley of Dickson, TN;
Brothers-Tom (Gloria) Haley and Steve Haley of
Dickson, TN; Grandchildren- Emmy Lynn and
Easton Estes of Burns, TN; Sister-n-law- Billie
(Chris) Flowers of Donelson, TN
Step-daughter- Leah (Tim) Hedge of Tullahoma, TN;
Step-grandchildren - T.C., Mary Cate and Jay
Hedge, Kaitlyn Flowers, Rick and Nick Carter and
numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to sincerely express unequivocal
gratitude to all friends, fellow servicemen and
the members of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots
Association for all the thoughts and prayers. We
are so grateful for you all that words cannot
truly express the depth of our appreciation.
Funeral services will be conducted 9 a.m. Tuesday,
December 1, 2009 at Bond Memorial Chapel.
Interment with military honors will follow at 11
a.m. at Middle Tennessee State Veterans
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St.
Judes Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude
Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the American
Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway,
Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and 4-6:30p.m.
Monday ending with a Masonic service at Bond
Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Road and Weston

Other Information: Mike was Chair of the 1999
VHPA Reunion held in Nashville, a Life Member of
VHPA, and Founder of the local chapter.
