More detail on this person: John Lawrence Himes, 74, most recently of Victoria, went to be with Our Lord and Savior, Saturday, April 22, 2023. Family & friends will gather for a Celebration of Life, with military honors, at Grace Funeral Home 2401 Houston Highway, Victoria TX. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 10 AM - 11:30 AM. John was born September 23rd, 1948, in Nevada City, California to the late John Logan Himes and Rebecca Robinson Himes. John was a man of deep love for God (Yeshua), his family, and his Country. John joined the United States Army and served from 1969-1970 as a decorated UH1 Huey pilot in Vietnam. John also served over 20 years in the Army National Guard to mark over 24 years in the military. After returning home from Vietnam, he began his extensive career in law enforcement as a sheriff deputy for the Pima County Sheriff's Department in Tucson, AZ. While in uniform, he met his beautiful wife Diane, and on June 16th, 1974 they married and began their extraordinary 48 year journey together. John was a true and constant protector of his wife, children and grandchildren. John's love for his family was unrivaled, and is what will truly be missed most about him. Following John's retirement from the Pima County Sheriff's Department, he resumed his career in law enforcement for the Arizona Highway Patrol as a DPS Helicopter pilot for Air and Rescue. John enjoyed all things aviation, fishing, military and law enforcement. But John will be most remembered for his love of theological studies, reading, his sense of humor, and his love of discussing politics and religion. John was preceded in death by his parents John Logan Himes and Rebecca Robinson Himes. John leaves behind to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of serving God and Country, his loving wife of 48 years, Diane Bowen Himes; sons, John Himes and his wife, Genevieve, Kevin Himes and fiancé, Gwendolyn; daughter, Amanda Kasten; grandchildren, Madison Huber and husband, Wilmer, Ciera Himes, Cayden Himes, Brianna Loker, Giselle H. Himes, Quinn Himes, Lane Kasten & Tristan Himes; along with other loving2family and friends.
