More detail on this person: Sept. 17, 1947 - Feb. 15, 2007 COSTA RICA -- Herbert Hood, 59, died Thursday at his home in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. He was born in Norfolk, Va., to the late Herbert P. Hood Sr. and Ruth Cox Hood. The family moved to Goldsboro in 1957 where he grew up and graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1966. He served as a U.S. Army Captain with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He was a decorated Cobra pilot and a member of the Special Forces. After leaving the Army in 1974 he developed and owned several businesses including a restaurant in North Carolina, a helicopter touring company in Hawaii and other businesses in Australia and Florida. In 2003 he retired with his wife to Costa Rica where they relaxed and enjoyed life. He is survived by his wife, Anne Hood of Costa Rica; daughters, Ashlie Hood and Melanie Hood of Charlotte; stepchildren, Rebecca Keeler of Parker, Colo., and Brian Olsen of Denver, Colo.; sister, Donna Hood of Greensboro. The family will have a private memorial service at Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
