More detail on this person: Frank R. Hoover passed unexpectedly on 27 July 2022 at home in Dothan, AL. He was born in Manitowoc, WI on 12 May 1944. He attended Utah State University and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Growing up, all Frank wanted to be was a military soldier. He served 20+ years combined as both enlisted (in the USAF) and then as an officer in the US Army. He served multiple tours in Vietnam, one of which involved working with the Montagnards. Comments from his OER during service with the F Troop, 8th Cav in Vietnam included: "...a highly skilled combat aviator...He quickly established a reputation as a Scout and was directly responsible for several highly successful recon missions." He flew an OH-6 at the Marbles AAF and Lassiter AAF. Caring deeply about the morale of his fellow comrades during service in Vietnam, Frank managed the F Troop Officers Club. Again, an OER states "He built the club by hand and spent long hours of off duty time making improvements on the facility." Some of his Army assignments include: from Sept 75-June 76, Communications Electronics Officer for 7/17th Cav, 6th Cav Bde, Fort Hood; from Jan 77-Nov 77 CE Officer for 3D BN 16th Field Artillery, USAREUR, a position he held until Oct 1979; from Nov 1979 to Mar 1983, Training Development Officer and Team Chief/Project Officer at the US Army Aviation Center, AL; from Apr 1983-Apr 1985, ATC Platoon Leader in the 191st Air Traffic Control Company at U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, Korea. Frank concluded his military career as an ATC Liaison Officer, 58th Air Traffic Control Battlion, 7th Signal Command, Fort Bragg, NC. Frank served as President of the VHPA Florida Chapter from 2014-2015. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Susan and two children, Robert and Allisen.
