More detail on this person: In April of 1966 Doug was enlisted in the United States Army. 1968 called him to duty in Vietnam. He was a UH1 helicopter pilot. His tour of duty was from July 1968 to February 1969. His tour was cut short when he was shot down in heavy enemy fire and sustained massive fractures in his back and neck. Upon joining the Reserves after VIETNAM, he received his CH47 rating and became an instructor pilot in the chinook helicopter. In 1996 he joined the National Guard and volunteered a tour in Afghanistan. He served from July 2006 to October 2006. After returning to the U.S. his unit in the National Guard was deployed to Kuwait. From 1966 to 2008 Doug proudly served his country. His medals include: " Master Army Aviator Badge " Distinguished Flying Cross " Legion of Merit " Air Medal W/V Device " Air Medal (4th Award) " Meritorious Service Medal " Army Commendation Medal " Purple Heart " Army Achievement Medal " Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation " Army Good Conduct Medal " Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars " Overseas Service Bar " Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star " Reserve Components Achievement Medal (7th Award) " National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star (2nd Award) " Vietnam Service Medal " Global War on Terrorism Service Medal " Humanitarian Service Medal " Army Service Ribbon " Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon " Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/M Device " Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 30 year Device " Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal Unit Citation (First Class) " Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal He retired from the National Guard as a CW5 (Chief Warrant Officer 5) The highest rank as a warrant officer. Doug is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlene, four sons, and many grandchildren. In civilian life Doug graduated from the University of Washington as a CPA, and had many clients that depended on him.
