More detail on this person: Colonel Robert A. Halbman Sr., United States Army Retired passed away at 4:15 P.M. on October 30, 2017 at Bowling Green Medical Center. The Pacific Missouri native and long time resident of Warren County was a retired U.S. Army Officer, cattle farmer, past Professor of Military Science at Western Kentucky University, former senior Army ROTC Instructor at Bowling Green High School, and Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, and former member of the Retired Officer Association. Ltc. Halbman graduated from Pacific High School, Southwest Missouri State University and Northeast Louisiana State University Graduate School. He gradated from U.S. Army Flight Training in 1962 and U.S. Army command and General Staff College in 1971. He was one of the early members of the U.S. Army Air Calvary and first Army armed helicopter flight class. He served two combat tours of duty in Vietnam, as well as service in Korea, Germany, Norway, and various other assignments in the United States. He was the recipient of two distinguished flying crosses with valor, two bronze stars with valor, 46 air medals, master aviators badge and numerous other military awards and decorations. He was raised by his grandmother, the late Maggie Straub, of Pacific, Missouri. A graveside service will be at 2:00 P.M. at Bowling Green Gardens on November 2, 2017. JC Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel are in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Diane L. Halbman, a son, Robert A. Halbman, Jr. (Tammy) of Allen County; A daughter Tayve L. Gifford (John), of Bowling Green, Ky, a brother Richard L. Halbman of St. Louis, Missouri, and 3 grandchildren; Robert A. Halbman III of Bowling Green, John Gifford Jr. (Morgan) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Jessica Gifford of Bowling Green.
