More detail on this person: Jakie Milford Howard, son of the late Noah and Eva, nee Jackson, Howard was born in Cary, Kentucky on February 26th, 1927. He graduated from Pineville High School, but determined to serve his country, he enlisted in the US Army before graduation. After basic training, he was stationed in Germany, though WWII had just ended. Upon completion of this tour of duty, he attended and graduated with a BS degree from the University of Kentucky. He then rejoined the Army as an officer, volunteering to serve in the Korean War. Though again, the Armistice was signed before Jakie's arrival in Korea. While in Korea, he served with the US Air Force Mosquitos as an Army spotter and developed a love for flying. Upon return to the US, he became an Army pilot. Altogether, including a two-year combat tour of duty in Vietnam, he proudly served his country for 27 years earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After retiring from the military, he worked for 10 years with the Commonwealth of Kentucky as an employment specialist. Eventually, he returned to Cary, Kentucky to work the Howard property which had been in his family for generations. While yet in the service, Jakie was joined in the bond of Holy Wedlock with Emily Mae Fuson on April 18th, 1952. This union was blessed with three children, Stephen V., Pamela O, and Joseph M Howard. On his return to Cary, he joined and became a faithful member of the Christ of the Cumberlands Lutheran Church in Harrogate, TN. This past Friday, March 1st, he was transferred by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, from the Church Militant to the Church Triumphant in heaven achieving the age of 92 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Noah and Eva Howard, and his eldest son, Stephen V. Howard. Surviving and cherishing his memory are his wife, Emily M. Howard, daughter, Pamela O. Howard, and son and daughter-in-law Joseph M. and Pamela L. Howard, and daughter-in law LaVon Howard; grandchildren, Nichole Howard, Blake Holsclaw, and Tonya Burnett; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Lainey Holsclaw, Noah and Jacob Houk. The visitation will be on Friday, the 8th of March, from 6 until 8 PM at Arnett and Steele Funeral Home in Pineville, KY. The service will be on Saturday, the 9th of March, at 11AM, also at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home in Pineville, KY. The reverend John Schulz, pastor emeritus, First Lutheran Church, Knoxville, TN and former visiting preacher at Christ of the Cumberlands, is officiating. Committal will follow at Pineville Cemetery.
