Maj. (ret) Henry "Hank" Hower, Jr., age 66 of
Crestview(FL); a brave, proud and loving man
passed away Thursday, Jun 23, 2005 at his home.
He served as
a major in the PAANG as an Army Aviator.

Maj. (Ret.) Henry H. Hower Jr.
Maj. (Ret.) Henry H. Hower Jr., 66, Crestview,
Fla., formerly of Tamaqua, a brave, proud, and
loving man, passed away Thursday at his home.
He was born in Tamaqua and moved to Crestview,
Fla. three years ago from Johnstown.
He served as a major in the Pennsylvania National
Guard as an Army Aviator. He proudly served his
country for 46 years before retiring in February
of 1999. He was president of the Pennsylvania
National Guard for several years. He received many
commendations during his career, culminating with
his induction into the Honorable Order of St.
Michael, in special recognition of his outstanding
contributions to the community of Army Aviation.
He was a member of the American Legion,
Foxwood Country Club, Shoal River Gun Club, Eglin
Officer's Club, Humane Society and a life-member
of the NRA.
Mr. Hower was preceded in death by his parents,
Henry H. Hower Sr. and Ethel (Major) Hower, and a
brother, Richard Hower.
Surviving are his wife of three years, Carol
Hower, of Crestview, Fla.; sons, Douglas Hower and
his wife, Shelley, of Pennsylvania and David Hower
and his wife, Melissa, of Georgia; daughters, Lt.
Cl. Debra Hower and her husband, CI Al Jones, of
Georgia; and Denise Bennett and her fiancé,
Michael Vernau, of Pennsylvania; sisters, Gloria
Rimm, Elizabeth Fabian and Carolyn Soley, all of
Tamaqua; a half-brother, Lee Hower, of Waverly,
Tenn.; grandchildren, Erika, Keith, Lauren,
Anthony, Brooke, Bailey, Chloe, Tyler and Taven;
step-children, Adrienne Berardi and her husband,
Michael; Danielle Gleason and her husband, Paul;
and Francis Frearr and his wife, Jennifer, all of
Johnstown; and step-grandchildren, Anthony,
Dominic, Kaylyn and Charly, all of Johnstown.
The funeral service was held Monday at
Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home Chapel,
Crestview, Fla.
A Military Funeral with full Military Honors will
be held in Pennsylvania at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the American
Cancer Society, or NOAH, 551 S. Main St.,
Crestview, Fla. 32536.
