More detail on this person: David Huntley WILLIAMSBURG - Dave Huntley died on April 4, 2007, in Williamsburg Hospice House. David Larkin Huntley, Lt. Col. U.S. Army, Retired, was born in Chicago,Ill., on Aug. 15, 1927. He was the middle son of Frank Aldrich Huntley and June Wood Huntley. Dave was raised in Southern California where he met and married his 'Babe,' Harriet Doctor Huntley. Dave was commissioned from Infantry OCS in 1953 and served in normal troop assignments until becoming an Army Aviator in 1956 and a helicopter pilot in 1957. Flight assignments included missile recovery in White Sands, N.M., troop assignments at Fort Lewis, Wash., and cartographic flying in South America. While at Ft. Lewis, Dave and Harriet adopted their son, David, and daughter, Patricia, and soon after their daughter, Mary, was born. Almost three years later, their daughter, Susan, was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and then their youngest son, William, was born in Ft. Jackson, S.C. Their five children produced 11 wonderful grandchildren. Dave served three overseas tours, including one in Korea and two in Vietnam. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, nine awards of the Air Medal, and two Meritorious Service Medals. Col. Huntley completed his military service at Ft. Monroe in 1975. After earning a Master's Degree, Dave worked in the personnel field for over 15 years. He and his wife of 57 years were active in the formation of their retirement community, Patriots Colony. Dave will be remembered by his friends and family as selfless and kindhearted with a good-natured sense of humor. Dave was devoted and passionate about his family, church, and service to his country. All who knew him were blessed to share in his life. Dave was preceded in death by his two sons, David Jr. and Bill. He is survived by his wife, Harriet, and three daughters, Patty, Mary and Susan. Nelsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
