More detail on this person: Steve Horn IAEGER -- Steve Horn, 58, of Sandy Huff Branch Road, Iaeger, passed away Friday, January 11, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. Born in McDowell County, he was the son of Maggi Wagner Horn, Paynesville, and the late Luther Horn. He was a lifelong resident of McDowell County, and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Mr. Horn served in the United States Army, having served two tours in Vietnam. He was Chief Warrant Officer and received the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations against hostile forces during the period of April 1969 - April 1970 in the Republic of Vietnam. He received two Air Medals for Meritorious Achievement while participating in aerial flight during the period of May 1969 - April 1970 and from June 7, 1971 - September 26, 1971 in the Republic of Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism while participating in aerial flight on February 3, 1970 in the Republic of Vietnam. Mr. Horn was trained in Helicopter Safety at the University of California Los Angeles. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, a graduate of Iaeger High School and was a Retired Coal Miner having worked as Superintendent of Virginia Crews Coal Corporation No.14. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Iaeger, the V.F.W. Post in Iaeger, and the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Horn is survived by his loving wife: Judy Carrol Burroughs Horn Iaeger; two sons: Steve Horn II of the home, Cameron Horn, Radford, Va.; two sisters: June Brown, Bluefield, Va., Violet and husband Roger Boothe, Casa Grande, Ariz.; three brothers: Huey and wife Dorothy Horn, Pineville, Roger and wife June Horn, Paynesville, Randall Horn, Paynesville. Also, survived by two grandchildren: Sabrina and Alicia Horn who made their home with their grandparents at Sandy Huff. He was preceded in death by one sister: Jewell Ackley. Funeral Services for Steve Horn will be conducted Monday, January 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clair Horn officiating with burial to follow at the C.M. Horn Cemetery, Brushy Fork Ridge Road, near Paynesville. Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. to await the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. Active Pallbearers will be family and friends. Full Military Rites will be conducted at the Cemetery by V.F.W. Post 175, Iaeger. Masonic Rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Iaeger Masonic Lodge.
