More detail on this person: Ronald Dallas Hancock May 4, 1947 _ May 28, 2023 Bryan Emblem Ronald Dallas Hancock passed away on May 28, 2023 at the age of 76, at his home in Bryan, Texas. He was born on May 4, 1947, in Mobile, Alabama to Dallas and Loydale (Denny) Hancock. Ronald Dallas Hancock grew up in Pasadena, Texas. He graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas. After high school he joined the U.S. Army in May of 1968. Ron attended college at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, earning bachelor's in history. He retired from the military in 1997 with his final rank was CW4. Ron served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1977, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. Ron served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1977 to 1997 as a helicopter pilot. He worked as a Department of the Army Civilian as the Aviation Support Facilities Supervisor in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1991 to 1995. He then served as the Director of Army Reserve Installation Management from 1995 to 2005. His final position as a civilian with the Army was as BRAC Transition Coordinator from 2005 retiring in 2013. Ron also worked for Petroleum Helicopters Inc. (PHI) in Lafayette, Louisiana as a helicopter pilot from 1978 to 1992. Medals received in the U.S. Army and numerous other medals and awards received while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve and as a Department of Army Civilian. Ron earned a Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (22 Clusters), Army Commendation Medal for Valor, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He also received the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Medal (with Palm), Army Aviator Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, and the De Fleury Medal (Bronze) for significant contributions to Army Engineering. Ron was preceeded in death by his father, Dallas Hancock; grandmother, Edith McCaleb; grandfather, James Denny; step-grandfather, Gilmer McCaleb; and brother, Brent Hancock. Those left to cherish his memories are his spouse, Karen Marie Hancock; sons, Jeffrey and Jason Hancock; daughter in laws, Noreen Hancock and D'Nita Broussard; grandchildren, Holly, Margaret, Trevor, and Ian; great grandchildren, Paisley, Lily and Michael; step-great grandchildren, Brett and Ryker; mother, Loydale Richardson; sister, Andrea Hancock; aunt and uncle, Robbie and Don Erwin; nephew, Brent Hancock Jr. and wife June; mother in law, Emogene Mayo; sisters in law, Kathryn Russel and Debra Cooper, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ron loved searching for and working on classic Fords and Mercury's with his sons. His passion was the 1950 Mercury and early Ford Mustangs. He also loved to play golf. Ron loved his family and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ronald Hancock married Karen Marie Mayo in August of 1965 in Houston, Texas. Ron and Karen were happily married for 57 years. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 11:15AM at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 6-8PM at Emerald Hills Funeral Home in Kennedale, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Wounded Warriors Foundation and/or The Humane Society at Bryan, Texas.
