More detail on this person: Major Lyle K. Haskins, U.S. Army (Retired), 75, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 surrounded by family at his residence. Born on August 3, 1945 in Oil City, he was the son of the late Harold Haskins and Ellen (Weaver) Felice. Lyle graduated from Millersburg High School (Class of '63) and immediately thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served two tours in Vietnam, flew helicopters and was certified for fixed-wing aircraft, and retired from the former New Cumberland Army Depot as a commissioned officer after a 22-year career. He earned his B.S. from Hampden-Sydney College in 1972 and a Masters in Business Administration from Boston University in 1983. Following his retirement from active service, he continued to be a productive member of his community, including being certified as a financial advisor and also working for Pennsy Supply and Voith Transmissions. He enjoyed any opportunity to spend time in or on the water and was passionate about sailing. He and his wife Sandy sailed from the Chesapeake Bay along the Intercoastal Waterway as part of a 3-month journey around the Bahamas. He was a past president of the Susquehannock Sail & Power Squadron (now America's Boating Club of Central PA), taught boating safety as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and built his own wooden sailboat. He was a talented craftsman, having built a 2-car garage, a home addition, and various other projects. He also applied these gifts as a volunteer captain for the Harrisburg Christmas in April charity program. In everything he did, he was diligent, practical, and safety conscious. He had a great respect and tolerance for people from all walks of life and a deep, abiding joy spending time with his grandchildren as frequently as possible. He instilled in his family a life-long love for learning and a great sense of adventure about new experiences while always striving to do your best. Surviving Lyle are his wife of 20 years, Sandra (McKee) Haskins; his daughters, Rev. Denise Haskins and Angela Wydra (Bill); step-children, Brad Hafer, Susan Greene, and David Hafer; grandchildren, Cole Wydra, Mason Wydra, Mia Wydra, Finley Wydra, Clayton Hafer, Justin Hafer, Nolan Hafer, Andrew Greene, Chelsea Greene, Eric Greene, Jack Lazcano, and Aizy Lazcano; and his sister, Nancy Devitt.
