More detail on this person: RICHARD TOWNSEND HEARD LIEUTENANT COLONEL RICHARD TOWNSEND HEARD -- Lt. Col. Richard "Wick" Heard, 83 years old, died on August 12, 2009 after a brief illness. He was a resident of San Antonio. Born September 25, 1925 in Fort Riley, Kansas he was the son of Major General Jack Whitehead and Ella Agnes McCarthy Heard. His brother Col. John Whitehead Heard (Ret) of Canyon Lake, TX and sister Elizabeth Heard Deane of Panama City, FL survive him as do his four loving daughters, Elizabeth Corbett Heard, of West Palm Beach, FL, Georgia Heard O'Brien of Singer Island, FL, Jacqueline Ella Heard of St. Louis, MO and Patricia Dorothy Heard of Center Sandwich, NH and four grandchildren, Peter, Leo, Ailis, Fiona and Rowan. His brother Ralph predeceased him. His marriage to Virginia Lynch ended in divorce. His long- time friend Ann Drake survives him. He attended St. Georges School in Newport, RI, and was a graduate of Johns Hopkins, class of 1950. He had a distinguished extended military service including time in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and broke two world speed records over a closed circuit course in a U.S. Army OH 6A Helicopter. He was a member of both the U.S. Army Ski and Tennis teams. Those who knew "Wick" will miss his wonderful sense of humor and generosity.
