More detail on this person: LTC James Robert Hensley Retired Lt. Col. James Robert Hensley, 71, of Huntsville passed away Monday at his residence. Mr. Hensley was born in Trion, Ga., and lived his early life in LaFayette, Ga. He graduated from LaFayette High School in 1954 and from North Georgia College in 1957. Mr. Hensley was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Transportation Corps and graduated from Army Flight Training in 1958. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving from 1965 to 1968. He was decorated for valor, heroism, and courage under fire; twice awarded the Bronze Star, and received seven awards of the Air Medal with one V Device for valor. Mr. Hensley retired from the Army with more than 22 years service in January 1980. He also retired from Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga., in 1991. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally K. Hensley; and his father, Walter Hensley. Survivors include one daughter, Kathy H. Vining of Huntsville; his mother, Bertha Hensley of LaFayette; two grandchildren, Katie and Kendall Vining of Huntsville; two sisters, Jo Hensley of LaFayette and Barbara Lowe of Powder Springs, Ga.; one brother, Harold Hensley of LaFayette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
