He was born in Clinton County, Indiana, June 30, 1932, the older son of Larry and Mildred Hobbs. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1950. He was a member of the Indiana High School Basketball All Star Team in 1950 and a member of the Indiana High School Basketball Silver Anniversary team for 1975. He graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1954.

Mr. Hobbs married Barbara Jane Cunningham of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, June 20, 1954. Mrs. Hobbs was a registered nurse, Army wife, Army mother, and grandmother. Harry and Bobbie were deeply in love each and every year of their 61 years together.

Mr. Hobbs was a retired Army Officer and Department of Defense civilian employee.

He entered the US Army at Fort Eustis, Virginia, July 24, 1954, and served 28 years. He was an Infantry company commander, an aviator, helicopter test pilot, aircraft maintenance officer and logistician. He served overseas at Frobisher Bay, Canada, in 1955; Sondrestrom, Greenland in 1956; the 4th Armored Division in Germany, 1959-1962; Aviation assignments in Vietnam in 1964-65 and 1967-68; and logistics officer in Okinawa, Japan 1972-75. He had duty assignments in Korea and Beirut, Lebanon. He retired from active Army duty as Lieutenant Colonel at Fort Lee, Virginia, August 1, 1982.

As a Department of Defense civilian, Mr. Hobbs taught logistics at the Army Logistics Management College 1983-1986, and served in the Army Training and Doctrine Command until March 1997, when he retired at Fort Monroe, Virginia.

He is survived by his sons Larry of Sicklerville, New Jersey and Jeffrey of Tampa, Florida and his grandson Matthew.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Marion-Adams Scholarship Foundation for the "Larry Hobbs, Mil Renn Hobbs, and sons, Harry and Joe Scholarship" at 509 East Fourth Street; Sheridan, IN 46069-1199.
