More detail on this person: Henry James Harkins, age 69, died on November 19, 2013 and has gone to join his brothers in combat who have gone before him. He was born April 4, 1944, the son of the late Eugene and Aline Harkins of Wilmington. He was a graduate of Archmere Academy and attended Wesley College and the University of Delaware.

A wounded Vietnam veteran, he was the recipient of the Silver Star and the Soldier's Medal, awarded for heroism performed outside of actual combat. In addition to his Vietnam service, Hank was a pilot with 198th Aviation Company (Assault Helicopters) Delaware Army National Guard. He was employed by the CSX Corporation until retiring because of a physical disability.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Wilmington and his son, Craig (Joanna) of Chamblee, GA and step-daughter, Dawn Panagos (Dino) of Wilmington. In addition, he is also survived his sister, Mary Ward of San Diego, CA and his brother, Michael (Helen) of Wilmington and four grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.

Hank was a lover of dogs. An avid fisherman, hunter and golfer; however, these activities became limited due to his increasingly painful back injury. He enjoyed his weekly poker sessions with his veteran buddies at the Delaware Veterans on Naamans Road. He followed all college football every weekend. Like all Eagles fans, he was an expert couch coach.
