More detail on this person: Higdon, Leonard T VHPA G35205 Burial: Woodhaven Memorial Gardens, Claxton, TN CPT Leonard Thomas Higdon Captain Higdon was the commander of Company E, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) at the time of his death on Thursday, May 21, 1970. He was KIA on Fire Support Base Bastogne (Thua Thien Province) during a mortar attack. The report received at the company orderly (if memory serves me correctly) was that he was the victim of a single mortar round lobbed onto the firebase by the enemy. Captain Higdon was 25 at the time of his death, being born on September 20th, 1944, in Monroe County, Alabama. This was his second tour in Vietnam, the first having been served with the 1st Cavalry Division. He had arrived in-country for this tour on February 13th, 1970. Captain Higdon was a 1962 graduate of Powell High School, Knoxville, TN, and attended Middle Tennessee State University and Carson-Newman College. He was survived by his wife Sandra Kay (Golden), three children, Leonard, Melissa, and Charles, his parents Leonard and Nettie Higdon, one sister, Bonnie (Higdon) Atkins, and two brothers, Charles P. and Walter Q. Higdon.
