More detail on this person: Kenneth D. Howard was born May 16, 1926 to Charles and Velma Howard in Caribou, Maine. Ken was a wonderful son, brother, father and grandfather. He was a loving husband to Georgia for 64 years. Ken loved life and believed in love, God, honor and country. He was always ready to help others. He was a Mason and a Shriner and worked to help the Children's Hospitals. He was a great Dad, always there when we needed him; he believed in unconditional love. Ken served more than two years in the Navy, and then 20 years in the Army; he retired from the Army having served in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. After retiring from the military, Ken worked another 20 year career as a civilian helicopter test pilot at the Corpus Christi Army Depot; after that Ken continued flying helicopters for services that ferried workers to and from the offshore oil rigs. He was considered an excellent pilot by his family and many co-workers, he loved flying and was the best at anything he did.Ken had three brothers who preceded him in death, Charlie, Arthur and Herbie.He leaves behind his wife, Georgia; three children: daughters, Judy (Ron) Detterman, Tina Kline, and son, Glen (Tammy) Howard; seven grandchildren: Joshua, Amber and Jake Howard; Rick Kline, Ken Reue, Karen Armstrong, and Stacy McCollum; two step-grandchildren: Justin and Jonathan Seaman; four great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren, three sisters: Shirley Roepke, Natalie Boeren and Babs Sturgeon.Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road with a prayer service to begin at 8:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at Cage-Mills Chapel with interment to follow at 2:30 p.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
