More detail on this person: Charles J. Helms Jr. Charles Joseph Helms Jr., 51, of 5440 Medley Road, Owensboro, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, near Dorton. He was born in Arlington, Va., was employed as an office administrator and pilot for Kindill Mining Inc., and was a member of Third Baptist Church in Owensboro where he was church moderator and a past chairman of the Finance Committee. He received his bachelor's degree from Virginia-Polytechnical Institute in Blacksburg, Va., was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a helicopter pilot and earned the rank of first lieutenant, and he was a member of the Owensboro Amateur Radio Club. He was active with Boy Scouts of America, had been Cubmaster for Pack No. 76 of the Boy Scouts of America for the past two years and was a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include his wife, Vicki Bennett Helms; two sons, Charles Joseph Helms III and Bennett Edward Helms, both at home; a daughter, Christina Helms of Owensboro; and a sister, Louise McLeod of Daytona Beach, Fla. Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Third Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro.
