More detail on this person: Hughes was in my
class 69-15 at Hunter. His Aircraft was performing
an instrument departure with IP, the rotor
contacted the tail boom, severing it. The UH-1D
spiraled several times impacting on the IP's side
killing him. Hughs opened his door and was
engulfed with a fire ball. He exited the AC and
ran on fire for some distance. He sucumbed his
burns for 3 or 4 days, then died. Hughs would have
been the youngest WO1 to graduate from flight
school . His birthday would have been a couple of
days before graduation. I'm not sure how much
imformation your keeping on individual pilots but
I thought I'd pass the above on. From: CW-4
Eugene Scott Harris USAR retired class 69-15
