More detail on this person: Anthony "Tony" Irwin Anthony "Tony" Irwin, 62, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in San Antonio. He was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts in 1944 to Walter Irwin and Patricia Doyle Irwin. His early years were spent in the U.S. with his parents. When Tony's father became involved in the civil aviation industry after World War II, the entire family joined him in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where his father worked for the Arabian American Oil Company. Tony lived in Saudi Arabia for 12 years except for his high school education days when he attended Notre Dame International School in Rome, Italy. He attended St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas where he received his BA degree in Economics and International Relations in 1967; he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1969. Tony served his country as an Officer Helicopter Pilot in Vietnam in 1971 and was awarded the Air Medal and Bronze Star, receiving honorable discharge in 1972. In 1973, Tony was employed by Farm & Home Savings Association as a Loan Officer. Over the next 16 years he developed a comprehensive real estate and mortgage lending background. Tony retired from the U.S. Army in July 2004 after 36 years of military service in the active U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserves and the Texas National Guard. This included flying support missions for the 5th Infantry Division during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He also completed a 1-year tour of duty as a Pilot and Safety Technician in a Helicopter Company in support of the U.S. Forces in Korea. Most recently, Tony was working at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio as an Operations Support Specialist. Tony is survived by his son, Lee Rothe Irwin of Arlington, Virginia; daughter, Lisa Marie Irwin of Walnut Creek, California; and his sister, Mrs. Diane Husquin of Grenoble, France. A graveside service will be held Monday, December 11, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Mission Burial Park North. Following services, Tony will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 8415 Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX., 78229.
