Jarrett, a decorated Army officer, accomplished helicopter and fixed-wing pilot, international marketing professional, and avid adventurer, passed away on July 13, 2023. Dick, born on April 8, 1932, led a life of dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. Dick grew up with a profound sense of duty and love for his country. Following his graduation from Michigan State University in 1954 and inspired by his deep-rooted patriotism, Dick joined the United States Army. He and his first wife Karin Jarrett (now deceased) embarked on a distinguished 28-year military career, traveling the globe, raising their sons, and later returning stateside for a career with Bell Helicopter. Serving as an officer and earning the utmost respect from his peers and superiors, Dick retired with the rank of Colonel. Notably, he served two tours in Vietnam as an attack helicopter pilot demonstrating exceptional skill, bravery, and resilience in the face of adversity. Dick's unwavering commitment to his fellow pilots and the mission at hand was truly commendable. He never lost a man under his command. His courage and dedication to duty earned him numerous commendations and the deep admiration of all who served alongside him. His military decorations include a Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Following his exemplary military service, Dick transitioned to a new chapter in his professional life, joining Bell Helicopter. Utilizing his extensive experience and expertise, he excelled in the field of international marketing, contributing significantly to the company's success. Dick's passion for aviation continued to shine as he leveraged his knowledge to foster positive relationships across the globe. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dick possessed an adventurous spirit that led him to embark on exhilarating expeditions. He had a profound passion for big game hunting and embarked on many safaris in Tanzania, where he found solace and excitement in the great outdoors. Dick's love for adventure was contagious, and he inspired those around him to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the world we inhabit. While Dick achieved great success in his professional and adventurous endeavors, his true joy was found in his family. He is survived by his devoted sons David and Thomas, their wives, his five cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, his loving wife Betsy, her three children and their spouses, and his five bonus grandchildren. Dick's nurturing spirit and unwavering love provided a strong foundation for his family, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unity. Dick's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His bravery, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his country, career, and loved ones will continue to inspire generations to come. A funeral service with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virgina on November 30, 2023, at 10:45 am for family and invited guests with a private reception to follow at the Fort Meyer Officers Club.
