More detail on this person: Alabaster, AL - Gerald "Jerry" L. Johnson, age 85, passed away December 6th at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Jerry is survived by his wife, Annette Boyd Johnson, and three children: Kevin Johnson (Pat), Curtis Johnson (Lisa) and Sonya Johnson. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Matt Johnson, Erin Johnson (Dustin) and Mason Johnson (Bailey). Jerry was born December 13, 1933, in Connersville, IN. He was a triplet, being one of four sons born to Gordon G. and Ethel B. Johnson. He was predeceased by his parents, older brother James (Mabel) and brother Frank. He is survived by his brother Harold (Carol) and numerous nieces and nephews. He spent the majority of his youth in Williamsport, PA. He was on the track and field team at Temple University prior to his enlisting in the United States Marine Corps as a helicopter pilot. In his 13-year tour with the Marines, Jerry rose to the rank of Major. He served in the Vietnam War, where he flew med-evac and earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross and 22 awards of the Air Medal. His wounds led to his early retirement from the military.Afterwards, Jerry earned his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of West Florida, and managed data processing and the computer room for O'Neal Steel until his retirement.
