More detail on this person: Delmar W. Johnson,
our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother,
uncle, friend and the patriarch of our family
returned home to our Heavenly Father on March 16,
2016, surrounded by his family.
Del was born on January 30, 1946 to Lenard Earl
and Evelyn West Johnson. He was the fifth of
eleven children and was raised in Smithfield,
Utah. He had a happy childhood on the family farm
where his parents taught him the value of hard
work. Del served as a missionary for The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Great
Lakes Mission. After returning, he enlisted in the
United States Army. He was deployed to Vietnam
as a helicopter pilot in 1970 and was recognized
for his service with many awards. Del met the love
of his life, Shelley Polson, and impressed her
with his good looks and spiffy car. Being the
romantic man that he was, he proposed on
Valentine's Day and they were sealed for time and
all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on May 18,
1972. He was delighted with the birth of each of
his four children who were his "single biggest joy
and zest for living". He earned his Bachelor's
degree in Communications from the University of
Utah, but was a lifelong BYU fan. He started
working in sales, but spent the majority of his
career in the roofing business. He owned All
Weather Waterproofing until he retired in 2009. He
was honored to complete the roof on 15 LDS
temples in multiple countries. He served
faithfully in each of his church callings and
especially loved the opportunity to serve as a
Bishop for six and a half years. He also enjoyed
working at the Draper Temple. He was an avid
hunter and fisher of golf balls. He enjoyed
spending time with his wife at their St. George
home, traveling with his family, and playing with
his grandchildren.
Del was preceded in death by his father and his
mother; his wife's parents; brother Thomas
Charles; and sister Yula. He is survived by his
wife of 43 years, Shelley; children Chris (Lisa),
Nikole (John) Moon, Ashlyn (Kyle) Chugg, and
Lindsey (Rob) Graham. He is also survived by 16
adoring grandchildren, 8 siblings, and many other
family members and friends whom he loved.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21,

South 1700 East. Viewings will be held Sunday,
