More detail on this person: Robert Jackson Robert Leroy Jackson, 75, went to be with Jesus at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and uncle. He was born Sept. 20, 1935, in Granite City, to Ruby Lee and John Bolin. He was raised by Ruby and her husband, James A. Jackson. He married Tameron (Tammy) Eden on Sept. 7, 1963. He graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1954. In 1955, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served for eight years. In 1963, he entered service to this country in the U.S. Army, where he was a drill sergeant and helicopter pilot. He served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours in Vietnam and received two bronze stars. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1975. He eventually retired from his employment with the U.S. government in 2000. Surviving are his wife of 47 years; his children, Theresa (Tex) Mills and her husband, Bret (Frog), Dedre Wheeler and her husband, Allen, Lee Robert Jackson and his wife, Brandi, and Steven Jackson; beloved grandchildren, Christopher Slone, Deven Fair, Julianna Fair, Ethan Lyons, Cowan Jackson and Taylor Leonard; a brother, James A. Jackson; a sister, Linda Wooldridge; and will be loved and missed by many nieces, nephews and family members. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6400 Humbert Road in Godfrey. Burial with military honors will be at Alton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to BJC Hospice at Alton Memorial and Alton Memorial Education Fund.
