More detail on this person: Johnson, James Yale James Yale Johnson, Major, U.S. Army, retired, 71, died Friday, May 30, 2003 at his residence under the care of Hospice Savannah, after a hard fought battle of cancer. Mr. Johnson was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, and had lived in Savannah for the past 37 years. He was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served as a helicopter pilot, and was awarded both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the Windsor Forest Baptist Church and the Beverly Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Gideon's International prior to his illness. He was preceded in death by Florence Johnson, his first wife and mother of his children. He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Stafford Johnson, of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Janet Johnson of Hot Springs, AK; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Ray Sapp of Savannah; two grandsons, James and Chris Johnson of Hot Springs, AK; a stepson, Alan Greene of Savannah; a stepdaughter, Melinda Davies of Savannah; four step-grandchildren, and an uncle, Sheldon Brown, of Las Vegas, NV. Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with Dr. James Staubes, and Rev. Arthur Smith, officiating. Burial: in Hillcrest West Cemetery, with Full Military Honors. Active Pallbearers: James Johnson, III, Chris Johnson, Alan Greene, Cline Davies, Don Smith and Robert E. Stafford. Honorary Pallbearers: The Beverly Sunday School Class.
