More detail on this person: JOHN JENNINGS JENNINGS, Lt. Col. (RET) John Lindsey, 86, beloved husband and father, United States Army Veteran, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, February 10, 2012. Born to Mamie Marie (nee) Lindsey and Robert Harvey Jennings on October 2, 1925 in Martindale, Texas, raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He entered the United States Army Air Forces in 1943. Served in the Pacific arena, including Iwo Jima and Japan as a tail gunner on B-29 aircraft. As a 2nd Lieutenant, he served four additional years in Austria where he met and married the love of his life, Virginia Deutsch in 1949. He continued his career as an Army Aviator in 1952, earned his helicopter rating, and served with the 40th Infantry Division in Korea. He was promoted to Major, earned his Master's Degree at the University of Nebraska in 1964, and continued to serve in Europe, Korea, and Vietnam. He and his family moved to Tampa, Florida, after he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, serving 25 honorable years in the Army. He continued to lead a noble life by serving his church, the Masons, Shriners, VFW, and the Daedalian Society. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many. John lived each moment to the fullest. He never met a stranger. He is survived by his devoted wife "Ginny", of 63 years, his adoring daughters, Mary Lou, Dorothy Ann, and Janet Lindsey. He is also survived by his baby sister Sarah, and predeceased by his older brother Bob, and sister Teresa. He is lovingly known as Papa to four grandchildren, Zachariah Jennings, John Lindsey, Virginia Marie, and Hayden Jennings. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephew. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to The Masonic Home of Florida, St. Petersburg for the loving and giving care during the last six months of his life. A memorial service was held at the Masonic Home of Florida with full military honors on February 17, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the Masonic Home of Florida and the Alzheimer's Association. Dad, you will be loved and missed greatly and in our hearts forever.
