More detail on this person: Ernest L. Jones, Jr Ernest L. Jones Jr., 49 years of age, of Oakwood Village, Ohio was a pilot for Petroleum Helicopters, Incorporated since 1984. He served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot. He earned the rank of captain with overseas service in Vietnam and served as a rotary wing section commander for the Iowa National Guard. Ernest attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautics. On Monday night, June 14th, 1999 the University of Kentucky Hospital Air Medical Service helicopter that has served Eastern, Southeastern and Central Kentucky residents since October of 1998 crashed killing Ernest and three other crew members. The crew included: pilots, Ernest Jones of Oakwood Village, Ohio and Don Greene of Somerset, Kentucky, flight nurse, Sheila Zellers of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and paramedic, Brian Harden of Richmond, Kentucky. The helicopter, which was stationed at Julian Carroll Airport in Jackson, Kentucky took off about 10:00 p.m. on Monday and was returning to Lexington for the night when the airport lost contact with the aircraft about eight minutes later. It crashed in the mountains about 1.2 miles southeast of the airport near Kentucky Highway 30 East. Ernest was survived by his loving wife, Dosette Jones; two children, Angela Jones and Michael Jones; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing. Burial was in the Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF ERNEST, The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
