More detail on this person: Austin Louis Joyner, age 80, husband of Marika Bollen Joyner, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 with his family by his side. Al was born on November 14, 1938 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Austin and Leila Carre' Joyner. He attended Steven's Tech in Hoboken, NJ and spent the last 45 years residing in Madison, CT. Al was a helicopter pilot in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam during the beginning of the conflict in 1963. After 9 years in the Marine Corps he honorably discharged and became a pilot for Pan-Am World Airways. After Pan-Am went out of business he went back to school and became a financial advisor until his retirement. Al had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed oil painting and monthly meetings with his book club where he was an avid reader of historical and non-fiction books. Al was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his wife Marika, Al is survived by a son, Paul Nicolas Joyner; a daughter, Claire Joyner Christina; Granddaughters, Tatum Marie Christina and Piper Ellen Christina; a sister, Leila Joyner-Smith of Washington, D.C.; a niece, Holly Lynde of Atlanta, GA and several cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. in the Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison, CT 06443.
