More detail on this person: James A "Jim" Kohler Bellingham Herald, The (WA) - Sunday, January 3, 2010 James A "Jim" Kohler, age 62, of Bellingham, WA passed away on Dec 19th 2009. He was born on March 21, 1947 to Art and Dorothy Kohler in Wolf Point, MT. As a child, Jim moved every 2-3 years. He joined the US Army in the fall of 1968, and married Anne Ritter on April 10, 1969 in Nebraska City, NE. Jim served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam from 1970-71 and was discharged from the Army in June of 1971. He and Anne moved with their son, Tim to Alaska, where Jim worked as a Customs Patrol officer and was in the AK National Guard. He was transferred to the Blaine Border Crossing in July 1974 and retired from there as a US Customs Special Agent in August 1998. At that same time, Jim was discharged from the US Army inactive reserves as a CW4. Since his retirement, he was involved in the Mt. Baker Ham Radio Club. His call sign was AC7UM. Jim worked with Whatcom County Ares and Races. He volunteered at The American Red Cross to have ham radios and antennas ready for any emergency. He was a member of the Mt. Baker Long Rifles Black Powder Club. Jim enjoyed a good beer or a good discussion with friends and he will be greatly missed. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Art; and daughter, Kathy, who died of cancer in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Annie; son, Tim; mother, Dorothy; brother, Tom; sister, Jane Jensen and husband Alan; sister, Nancy Kohler; mother-in-law, Verda Ritter; Annie's sisters and their spouses; and ten nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Bellingham.
