More detail on this person: Sgt. Kerry Krupsky, sheriff's dept. pilot On the last day of his life, Sgt. Kerry Krupsky, a pilot for the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, watched his daughter's volleyball game, flew a shift over the county and attended a wedding. At the wedding reception last Saturday night, Sgt. Krupsky, 53, collapsed from an undetected heart ailment. His very last flight came a few hours later when he was airlifted from St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia for an emergency heart operation at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He died before surgery. "My dad didn't just love flying, it was a big part of his life," said his son, Brad. "It's pretty ironic that (flight) came just before the end." During his 27-year career, Sgt. Krupsky served as patrolman, detective, head of the auto theft unit and first commander of the Oxford Township substation. A career highlight came in 2001 with the creation of the aviation unit. "It was his dream," said Brad Krupsky. "All the hours, the phone calls with people trying to come up with ways to make it work and to fund it. He was so happy when Sheriff Bouchard and the county made the commitment to get a helicopter. And then add a second one." A Vietnam War veteran, Sgt. Krupsky was shot down twice during missions and spent more than 30 years flying helicopters in the Michigan National Guard. Other survivors include a daughter, Lindsay five brothers, Keith, Kyle, Kent, Kurt and Kevin a sister, Debby Hutchinson two grand-daughters, Miranda and Monica and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Sgt. Krupsky will be from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today and Thursday at the Donelson, Johns and Evans Funeral Home, 5391 Highland Road in Waterford Township. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Shepherd King Lutheran Chuch, 5300 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield Township.
