KING (Age 70) on Saturday, January 22nd, 2011 of Manassas, VA, beloved husband of Julia (Devine) King for 41 years; devoted father to Tracy (Stanley) Shopkorn, Carl L. (Erika) King Jr., Christopher (Kimberly) King, and Karen (Myles) Weber. Loving grandfather to Maxwell Shopkorn, Annika King, Caden King, Evan Weber, Gianna King, Cameron Weber, and granddaughter King due in May. Carl is also survived by siblings McLeroy (Diane) King, Bobby (Pat) King, Jeannette (Lamar) McInnis, and Jackie Herbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark L. and Vera I. (Childers) King, step-mother, Annah B. King and step-father, Jack Haynes.

Carl was born in Paris, TX and raised in Wichita Falls, TX. Carl was a graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL. Carl graduated from Flight School class 67-26 Fort Rucker, AL. In 1968, he was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry, 1st Aviation Brigade serving in Vietnam. Carl led various combat air missions piloting OH-6A Cayuse, OH-58 Kiowa and the AH-1 G Cobra helicopter. Captain Carl L. King married Captain Julia Devine USA N.C. in 1970 at Fort Knox, KY and continued with his Army aviation career. In 1988 Carl retired from the Army as a LTC and became an Apache Program Manager until he retired in 2007 from the Boeing Company.

Carl enjoyed spending weekends boating and water skiing with family and friends. He also developed a passion and skill in skeet and trap shooting, developing strong friendships at Isaac Walton League and Bull Run shooting ranges. More than anything, Carl enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling his grandkids.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Rd, Manassas, VA, followed by a reception at Father Kelly Hall. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
