More detail on this person: KONOPKA, Robert Alan "Bob," died May 7, 2007, after a brief battle with lung cancer at his home in Weeki Wachee, Fla. Bob was born March 29, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pa., to Agnes and Stanley Konopka. He lived there until enlisting in the Army, April 13, 1967. He was commissioned as a warrant officer and assigned to Southeast Asian Combat Unit 118 AHC as a helicopter pilot. His tour of duty was served in Vietnam from July 1, 1968 to June 30, 1969. He received the Military Order of the Purple Heart for his wounds, which ultimately led to his release from active duty. Among his other merits are the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Aviator Badge and the Air Medal. He served as a reserve until he was honorably discharged in 1978. Bob worked as an aircraft inspector for various international airlines and traveled the world. He always called himself an aviation prostitute, anything he could do in aviation to make a buck. Residing in south Florida for most of his adult life, new business interests took him to Victorville, Calif., where he stayed until his move to Weeki Wachee in February 2005. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2007, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. Memorials may be made in the name of Robert A. Konopka to Hernando / Pasco Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, FL 34667
