More detail on this person: John Kidney, 77, of Enfield, went home to his Lord and Savior on Monday Jan. 1, 2018 with loved ones at his side in the comfort of his home. He was the beloved husband of 19 years to Patricia (Closson) Kidney. John was born on April 1, 1940, son of the late John B. and Margaret Lawrence Kidney. He resided in Enfield for the past 27 years. He was a graduate of The Morgan School, Clinton, CT. He then attended Duke University and left to serve his country in the US Army. He received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Springfield Technical College in 1974. He graduated from Army Flight School, Ft Rucker, AL Class 63/64. John served his country honorably for 21 years and retired as Chief Warrant Officer (CWO4). He was a life member of the MOAA (Military Officer's Association). John was a proud life time member of the VHPA -Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Assoc. He was also a member in the 121AVN Assoc. - "The Soc Trang Tigers". He was a recipient of the CT Veteran's Wartime Service Metal. He was a 27 year veteran for the CT State Police and also a member of the American Assoc. of State Troopers. He was a member of the Rocky Hill American Legion. John loved music and played the Bagpipes for the Shriners and the CT State Police Pipe Band for many years. He always appreciated a joyful noise and was a member of the UMCE Choir which he fondly called "The Methodist Tabernacle Choir"! He was a member of the UMCE Red Shirts which gave him the nickname of the "Enforcer"! He enjoyed the fellowship of the Thursday morning UMCE Men's Breakfast Club. In his leisure time, he cherished camping trips in their motorhome with his wife Patti. He enjoyed numerous get-togethers with his brother Jay and wife Susan at the Finger Lakes visiting all the beauty of the area while stopping at various wineries. He enjoyed woodcarving and made many signs for friends, family and his church. John was blessed with wonderful friendships, and treasured the vacations spent in Hawaii and Aruba with his friends and ever faithful traveling companions, Jan and Jim. John enjoyed people and friends and left a footprint on the lives of everyone he met. He always had a beautiful smile and positive outlook on life. Service to God and others was of utmost importance, and he strove to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He enjoyed reading, particularly his Bible which he read daily. He was a devoted Pittsburgh Penguins fan! In addition to his wife Patti, he is survived by his children, Kim Cross of MA, David Kidney of FL, Major David Gervais of Otterburg, Germany and Garrett Gervais of Keene, NH, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Jay Kidney and his wife Susan of Chicora, PA and a sister-in-law & brother-in-law Jan and James Comey of Wilmington, MA. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 12th from 4-7 PM at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield, CT. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Enfield. Burial with military honors will take place in the CT Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Middletown, CT at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Enfield, 41 Brainard Road, Enfield, CT 06082 in care of the "Audio Visual Fund".
