More detail on this person: LTC Daniel Richard Keenan Lt.Col., U.S. Army, WW II, Korea, Vietnam (Ret.). Col. Keenan grew up in Rockaway Beach, NY and graduated from Far Rockaway High School. He attended College at Clemson University in South Carolina, in the military's ASTP program, the University of Maryland, and graduated from the Aviation Safety College at the University of Southern California. He was in the aviation industry for 50 years. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester. He joined the Army in 1945 and retired after 22 years of service. A veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam, he was an Air Field Commander at Vung Tau in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star, the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Senior Army Aviator's Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60. He retired as Commander of the VIP Flight Detachment (PAT) Davison Field at Fort Belvoir, VA. After his retirement, he was a Federal Aviation (FAA) Flight Inspector, and was the principal inspector on various air carriers. Retiring from the FAA, he worked for the Untied Nations and served as Chief Flight Safety Inspector to the governments of the Philippines and Botswana, South Africa. He founded the Annandale and Fairfax Air Conditioning and Heating, later named Keenan Heating and Cooling. He married Fay Menefee Ettare of Oakton, formerly of Luray, VA, on December 28, 1985, in the Fort Meyer Chapel at Fort Meyer, VA. Also surviving are their daughters, Coleen Joan Keenan Hersson, Rixeyville & Theresa Ann Keenan Wilson, Gainesville, FL; son, Daniel Michael Keenan, Annapolis, MD; two stepsons, W. Anthony Ettare, Jr., Chantilly & Eric Joseph Ettare, Alexandria; brother, Bernard Keenan, Rockaway, NY; seven grandchildren. Col. Keenan was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret & Thomas Keenan of Amagh Lough, Ireland; five sisters, and three brothers.
