More detail on this person: Mark Carlyle Kendall, son of the late Jennings Smith Kendall and Ethel L. Pickens was born on September 23rd, 1933 in Asheville, North Carolina. Mark graduated Russel High School in 1951, the University of Georgia in 1956, and immediately entered the Army upon completing his B.B.A. in accounting. Before leaving for his first tour, Mark married Sue B. Kendall of Atlanta, Georgia in 1954. During his military career he received his pilot wings in 1957, his helicopter wings in 1959 and went on to fly every aircraft the Army had. Mark also received countless other awards and metals which include a multitude of air medals, distinguished flying crosses, and a purple heart. After serving four tours: in Korea, in Germany, and two in Vietnam; Mark went on to complete Command General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas in 1976. After 26 years of military service, Mark retired as a Colonel on January 31st, 1981. In his retirement from the Army, he spent his time enjoying his family, gardening, fishing, sailing, and reminiscing on his flying days. He was a kindhearted person who always filled the room he was in with smiles and laughter. Mark peacefully passed away at the age of 87, on December 11th, 2020 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Mark Kendall is survived by his wife and love of 66 years Sue B. Kendall, three daughters Debra Anne Carlton, Diana Lynn Kendall, and Susan Michelle Ricks. Also, by his five grandchildren Amanda, Daniel, Katrina, Melissa, and Ashley; and three great-grandchildren Kacie, Caleb, and Oliver. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors. Interment will be on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 9:30 am until 11:00 am.
