More detail on this person: Lt Col Robert James Kavanagh Lt Col Robert James Kavanagh, USAF (Ret.), age 88, passed away May 11, 2008. He was born December 8, 1919, in New York, New York, to the late James and Agnes Kavanagh. He was in the US Air Force for 29 years and proudly served during WW II and Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross while serving as a lead B-17 pilot and flew 50 combat missions over Europe. Robert received a 2nd Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Star during Vietnam while serving as a helicopter rescue pilot. After retiring from the military, Robert had a successful real estate career for over 20 years. A loving husband, dad and granddad, Robert will be missed by all who loved and knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie. Robert is survived by his children, Robert J. Kavanagh Jr., MD and wife, Jane, Suzanne Kavanagh, and Judy Reynolds and husband, Clay; grandchildren, Robert J. Kavanagh III, Kimberly and Amanda Kavanagh, and Wesley and Virginia Reynolds; siblings, James Kavanagh, Virginia Kavanagh, Agnes Cahir and Julie Horton; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Porter Loring Mortuary North. SERVICE WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 2008 12:00 NOON ST. MARK THE EVANGELIST DAY CHAPEL 1602 THOUSAND OAKS Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association-SA Chptr, Attn: Joan Duval, 8507 Chesham, San Antonio, Texas 78254.
