More detail on this person: Helicopter crash at Amelia kills two AMELIA (UPI) - A helicopter piloted by a Tennessee man experienced engine trouble and plunged with its engine smoking into the Intercoastal Waterway in south Louisiana, killed the pilot and his passenger, officials said. Terrebonne Parish sheriff's deputies said the pilot, identified as Marion T. Knowles, 36, of Carterville, Tenn., radioed an emergency message Tuesday just before the four-passenger craft crashed near Bay Wallace, about 4 miles southeast of Amelia. The helicopter, owned by Petroleum Helicopter Inc, had taken off from a private base in Morgan City and was headed south, before the pilot reported engine trouble. "They had radio communication with the base that they had engine trouble and were turning around to go back to Morgan City," said coroner's investigator Roland Adams. "The next thing that came over was 'May Day, May Day' - that they were going down." The passenger was identified as Conrad Diehl, 42, of Berwick. Adams said a witness to the crash "heard a pop sound" and saw the craft plunge into the water. "He saw the helicopter going down with a smoke trail coming out," Adams said. The wreckage of the Bell 206 helicopter was scheduled to be examined today by inspectors for the National Transportation Safety Board. Cause of the crash was not determined immediately.
