More detail on this person: Lawrence Terry Lanier, 76, of Lumberton, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018. He was born on Feb. 10, 1942, in Robeson County, to the late Lawrence Gibson Lanier and the late Mary Barnes Lanier. He was a career serviceman of the U.S. Army. He served as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War and he received a Purple Heart, along with numerous other medals of honor throughout his service. He is survived by his daughter, Terri Lynn Rice and husband, Chris; a granddaughter, Sheridan Rice, who was the apple of his eye; and a brother, Keith Lanier and Susan Phillips. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory Inc. in Lumberton. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Chip Bass officiating. Burial will follow at New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 118 Orange St., Lumberton, N.C. 28358
