More detail on this person: Dr. Robert Nelson LeRay Jr., 77, a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana and resident of Eureka Springs, Arkansas passed away on March 11, 2021. A visitation will be held in his honor on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Samart Funeral Home of Houma, West Park (4511 West Park Avenue, Gray, LA, 70359) from 1:00 pm until funeral time. Services will begin at 2:30 PM at the funeral home. Full military honors will be rendered at 4:00 PM at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly LeRay Boquet and son-in-law, Marty; grandchildren, Caleb Levins, Savanna Boquet, Amelie Boquet, and Lily Boquet; former spouse, Linda Milligan; brother-in-law, Robert Thibodaux; niece, Allison Wing and nephews, Joe Thibodaux and David Thibodaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Nelson LeRay Sr. and Marie Bourgeois LeRay; son, Robert Nelson LeRay III; sister, Sally L. Thibodaux. He graduated from Thibodaux College in 1961. After graduation he attended USL where he received his bachelor's degree in psychology. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He heroically served one tour in Vietnam as a helicopter gunship pilot. During his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor, Bronze Star, and 28 Air Medals. Following his service in Vietnam, he was employed with PHI as a helicopter pilot. He later pursued a master's degree at Nicholls State University and continued his education at University of Southern Mississippi earning a PhD in Psychology. He was in a private practice as a psychologist in Houma and Lafayette until his retirement. His most fulfilling part of his career as a psychologist was working with inmates at Angola State Penitentiary. He retired to the community of Holiday Island just outside of Eureka Springs, Arkansas where he enjoyed listening to music, reading, collecting guns and antique knives, and driving the mountain roads in his convertible. He spent most of his time enjoying the view of the Ozark Mountains from his porch. Samart Funeral Home of Houma, West Park is in charge of arrangements.
